Do you have grayscale or blurry lines in your coloring book pages and just can't figure out how to fix them? This tutorial will guide you through the process of transforming a low-quality grayscale image into a high-quality, printable image using Photoshop. Let's dive in!
Why I Use Photoshop?
While many people use Canva and other programs, Photoshop offers powerful tools that make it easier to achieve high-quality results. If you already pay for Photoshop, it's worth utilizing its full potential to enhance your coloring book pages.
Preparing Your Image
First, let's start with a blurry or grayscale image. Here’s how to convert it into a high-quality, crisp coloring page.
Step 1: Set Up Your Document
Open Photoshop: Create a new document.
Document Size: Set the size to 8.5" by 11" and the resolution to 300 DPI. This size is standard for my coloring book pages and ensures high print quality.
Import Your Image: Open your grayscale image in Photoshop.
Step 2: Adjust the Image View
To better see the details, view the image as “fit on screen.” If the image has a lot of blurriness, zoom in to 100% to closely inspect the lines and details.
Step 3: Adjust Brightness and Contrast
Navigate to Adjustments: Go to
Image -> Adjustments -> Brightness and Contrast
.Increase Contrast: Bump the contrast all the way up to 100% and hit OK. This step will eliminate almost all of the grayscale, without losing the clarity of the outlines, giving you a perfectly white background and solid black lines.
Step 4: Sharpen the Image
Apply Unsharp Mask: Go to
Filter -> Sharpen -> Unsharp Mask
.Settings: Set the amount to about 96% and click OK. This step will sharpen the lines, making them crisper and clearer.
Finalizing the Image
Once you are satisfied with the adjustments, it’s time to save your work.
Step 5: Save the Image
Save as PNG: Go to
File -> Save As
and choose PNG format. PNG files preserve the quality of the image and are ideal for printing.Save as PDF: If you prefer, you can also save the file as a PDF directly from Photoshop for easy distribution and printing.
